The correct definition of embroidery is needlework
done mostly on loosely woven cloth or canvas that creates a pattern or
picture. It is essentially the process of combining fabric with
needlework.
Embroidery can be traced all the way back to the Iron
Age. Man used different pieces of fur to create different kinds of
clothing. Clearly embroidery has evolved from just stitching fur
together.
Embroidered clothing became known as a sign of wealth
and stature in various countries. Embroidered clothing was the best of
the best as for as garments went.
Eventually embroidery made its way to the masses.
Machines and computers greatly changed the way embroidered clothing was
made, making it much easier and mass produced. Still the art form is
considered one of beauty, value and worth.
