Embroidery 101

The correct definition of embroidery is needlework done mostly on loosely woven cloth or canvas that creates a pattern or picture. It is essentially the process of combining fabric with needlework.

Embroidery can be traced all the way back to the Iron Age. Man used different pieces of fur to create different kinds of clothing. Clearly embroidery has evolved from just stitching fur together.

Embroidered clothing became known as a sign of wealth and stature in various countries. Embroidered clothing was the best of the best as for as garments went.

Eventually embroidery made its way to the masses. Machines and computers greatly changed the way embroidered clothing was made, making it much easier and mass produced. Still the art form is considered one of beauty, value and worth.

Here at Con-Tees we have Four state of the art embroidery machines, and we update them monthly. There are Four looks that can bolster your clothing:

  • Applique - sewing of a cut piece of material to another piece. They can be stitched in a number of different ways using many types of fabrics.

  • Tackle Twill - stiff coordinating fabric used to create large lettering on jackets, sport jerseys, etc. stitched with a zigzag or satin stitch.
  • Chenille - a looped fabric used to create large lettering on jackets or sweaters.

Send us your logo or idea, and we will do the rest. Or you can design it yourself go to www.con-tees.net
